COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS

Big Time Hoops takes the safety of players, officials, spectators, coaches and our staff very serious. The following will be implemented until further notice:

Temperature Check & Hand Washing

– All individuals entering the facility will be scanned. Those with a temperature exceeding 99.9 will not be admitted.

– All individuals entering the facility will be required to wash hands with Hand Sanitizer.

Officials

– All officials will be using wireless whistles; standard whistles will not be permitted during the event.

Sanitizing the Facility

– Big Time Hoops Staff and the Facility Staff will sanitize equipment and seating area throughout the event.

– Hand sanitizing stations will be available; we still encourage individuals to carry a personal amount.

Masks/Face Covering of Mouth and Nose

– All individuals (including players) must have a mask for entry into facility.

– Mask must be worn at all times; athletes during on-court competition will be allowed to remove. Once player is on the bench, mask must be worn.

Social Distancing

– Spectators are required to keep a safe distance of six feet or the posted distance outlined throughout the facility.

– Seating will be provided but we encourage spectators to bring their own folding chairs.

– Teams maybe limited to 20 spectators per team.

– All individuals must exit through the specified designated area. Entry and Exit will be separated to promote social distancing and limit contact.

ADMISSION

– Spectators will be allowed to purchase Admission Wristbands Online.

– Spectator must present the Barcode (provided in the payment receipt) for a one-time scan; wristband will be provided.

– THERE ARE NO REFUNDS FOR THIS SERVICE.

**POSSIBLE SCHEDULE ROTATION FOR TEAMS & SPECTATORS

– Team and spectators specific to that team, will be allowed into the facility 10  mins prior to their Tip-Off.

– At the conclusion of each game, teams and spectators have 5 mins to exit the facility. This will allow the next set of games to start and ensure enough room for social distancing. At this time, disinfectant will be applied to seating areas.

Game Rules

  • Teams must be ready to tip-off at game time. Exceeding this time by (1) one minute will be considered a forfeit (SEE EXCEPTION BELOW). Teams must have a minimum of 4 players to start a game.
    • Exception: The tournament director or state office staff member assigned to the tournament can allow a grace period for unforeseen circumstances. (Example: Traffic conditions). This can only happen when the team is communicating its difficulties. Only the tournament director or state office staff member can forfeit a game. Officials do not have the authority to forfeit a game.
  • Games will not start early unless both coaches agree. Neither referees nor site directors have the authority to require teams to start a game prior to the scheduled starting time.
  • Game Rules (subject to change)
    1. Clock stops on whistle
    2. (15) mins per half (grades 9 thru 12 / ages 15U – 18U)
    3. (14) mins per half (grades 7 & 8 / ages 13U – 14U)
    4. (12) mins per half (grades 3 thru 6 / ages 9U – 12U)
    5. (3) Min halftime
    6. One full and one 30 sec time out per half
    7. Minimum of 4 minute warm-up
    8. Overtime consist of 2 mins, each team having one full timeout, sudden death starts in the 3rd Overtime
    9. Free throws are “ON THE RELEASE”
    10. 10 second backcourt, ages 12 and Up
    11. Each player has 5 fouls before disqualification
    12. Bonus on 10th foul, two free-throw attempts (no ONE in ONE)
    13. High School Federation Rules apply for all other scenarios
    14. Slaughter Rule: Clock runs when opposing team is trailing by 25 points, clock will stop on whistle when deficit reaches 20 or below.

 

  • The Home Team is responsible for providing the game ball, which must be a composite or leather indoor basketball. Rubber balls are not acceptable for game use.
  • Each team is responsible for its own warm up balls.

Coaching Check-In

  • Coaches must check-in 30 minutes prior to the start of their first game
  • Coaching bands are administered to no more than 2 coaches per team (state championships, national championships and certified events will be 3)
    1. Government Issued ID is required to obtain Coaching Bands
    2. Bands must be worn the entire length of event; removing will require payment for entry into the venue
  • Coaches must be 18 years of age to obtain coaching band and to sit on team bench

NCAA COACHES CHECK-IN

Coaches must have a valid NCAA number (certified events only) and present a government issued ID to receive their sideline coaches’ band. Need an NCAA Approval Number, please Click Here. Head Coach and all Assistant Coaches(Max of 2) must be registered in the Big Time Hoops system at least 4 days prior to event. IF NOT, coach will NOT receive a coaches side line band and will not be allowed to sit on bench or at score table. All coaches must individually sign for their respective band – NO EXCEPTIONS!!

Coaches’ Band (Non-NCAA Event)

Head Coach and Assistant Coach must be registered in the Big Time Hoops system at least 4 days prior to event. IF NOT, coach will NOT receive a band, all coaches must produce a Government Issued Picture ID and sign for their respective band – NO EXCEPTIONS!!

REFUND POLICY

A $55 transaction fee will be deducted from all refunds 60 to 8 days of event. No refunds issued within 7 days of event.

Eligiblility and Player Documentation

Team coaches are responsible that all players meet the player eligibility guidelines. Failure to comply, will result in team disqualification. We STRONGLY RECOMMEND that one of the following be available for review or validation:

  • Player Proof of Age
    1. Clean Copy of Birth Certificate OR
    2. Government Issued ID with D.O.B.
  • Player Proof of Grade
    1. Clean Copy of CURRENT report card OR
    2. Signed documentation (FORM EL7S) for home school students from school district OR
    3. Original letter from the school’s administration office with a Point of Contact (phone number and email required) to validate the document.
  • Player(s) or entire team can be verified through National Sports ID – More Info (https://www.nationalsportsid.com/)
    1. Site Director has access to approved Player or Team
    2. Annual fee of $10 per player. Coupons are available by contacting admin@nationalsportsid.com
  • Big Time Hoops and US Amateur Basketball is grade based with age parameters and limitations determined by birth date, that allow players in each division to compete against other players currently at the same grade / age level.  The following guide determines all eligible ages at grade levels.

Boys & Girls

3rd Grade / 9U – An athlete must be in the 3rd grade or below for the 2020-21 school year or cannot turn 10 prior to September 1, 2021.

4th Grade / 10U – An athlete must be in the 4th grade or below for the 2020-21 school year or cannot turn 11 prior to September 1, 2021.

5th Grade / 11U – An athlete must be in the 5th grade or below for the 2020-21 school year or cannot turn 12 prior to September 1, 2021.

6th Grade / 12U – An athlete must be in the 6th grade or below for the 2020-21 school year or cannot turn 13 prior to September 1, 2021.

7th Grade / 13U – An athlete must be in the 7th grade or below for the 2020-21 school year or cannot turn 14 prior to September 1, 2021.

8th Grade / 14U – An athlete must be in the 8th grade or below for the 2020-21 school year or cannot turn 15 prior to September 1, 2021.

9th Grade / 15U- An athlete must be in the 9th grade or below for the 2020-21 school year or cannot turn 16 prior to September 1, 2021.

10th Grade / 16U – An athlete must be in the 10th grade or below for the 2020-21 school year or cannot turn 17 prior to September 1, 2021.

11th / 17U Grade – An athlete must be in the 11th grade or below for the 2020-21 school year or cannot turn 18 prior to September 1, 2021.

12th / 18U Grade – An athlete must be in the 12th grade or below for the 2020-21 school year or cannot turn 19 prior to September 1, 2021.

 

HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES ARE INELIGIBLE!

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY PROTEST - Must be in Writing and $100 fee per player

  • Team Coach must submit protest, to Event Director within 2 hours of the start time of the protested game. Example: game time is 1pm, the protest window is open until 3pm.
    1. Protest is valid, $100 fee is returned to protestor
    2. Protest is invalid, $100 fee is retained by Big Time Hoops
  • Upon protest, teams must immediately provide proof of eligibility
  • Big Time Hoops and US Amateur Basketball is grade based with age parameters and limitations determined by birth date, that allow players in each division to compete against other players currently at the same grade / age level.  The following guide determines all eligible ages at grade levels.

Tournament Format and Tie-Breakers

  • Two Pool games to Bracket Play
  • Teams are separated by skill when there is a minimum of 8 teams per division
    1. Normally a GOLD CHAMP and SILVER CHAMP crowned
  • State Championship Qualification
    1. Compete in a State Qualifier Event
    2. Compete in Regional Qualifier Event
  • National Championship Qualification
    1. Compete in a National Qualifier event
    2. Compete in a Regional Qualifier event

Tie Breakers are based on Point Differential, then Points Allowed

Pool play to playoff/bracket play

3 game guarantee set-up – All teams are guaranteed two  or  three pool games with single elimination during playoff/bracket play.

  • 4 teams in a Division: (2) pool games on Saturday & bracket play on Sunday
  • 5+ teams in a Division: (2) pool games on Saturday & Single Elimination on Sunday

*Seeding into a Silver BracketTeams that are seeded into a Silver Bracket after pool play on Day 1, are not eligible to receive awards.

4 game guarantee set-up – All teams are guaranteed two  pool games with single elimination game during Championship bracket play. Losing first bracket game, places losing team in consolation bracket.

Conduct

  • Athletes, coaches, administrators, spectators, and all other persons connected directly or indirectly with a US Amateur Basketball member team, shall adhere to the principles of good sportsmanship and the ethics of competition before, during and after all contests in which they participate and/or attend. Each participating US Amateur Basketball team and its head coach shall be held strictly accountable for unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of its competitors, coaches and spectators.
  • An athlete, coach, administrator, or spectator who commits an act of malicious and hateful nature toward an official, opponent or any other person attending a US Amateur Basketball contest shall be guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct.
  • If contestants or people from any US Amateur Basketball team are found guilty of carelessness or maliciously breaking, damaging or destroying property or equipment belonging to a host tournament site or host organization, that US Amateur Basketball team will be held responsible for costs incurred in replacing or repairing such property or equipment.
  • If player, spectator or coach is ejected by an official, they must leave the gym immediately. Failure to comply will result in the disqualification of the associated team.
  • Zero Tolerance Items:
    1. No Aggressive Behavior and No Intimidation to a person within the facility. Non-compliance will result in the immediate Ejection from the Venue and Event
    2. No Profanity – Non- Compliance will result in the immediate Ejection from the Venue and Event
    3. No Fighting – Team is ejected from event, authorities called, and possible criminal charges filed

Overtime and Seeding Tie Breakers

Overtime starts 2 mins after end of regulation, team fouls carryover and each team has one timeout in OT.

Insurance and Trainers

Big Time Hoops does not carry player insurance, we advise that teams carry insurance during the season for protecting players and coaching staff. On-site trainers are only at certified NCAA events, coaches and players should at minimum carry a first aid kit or have the following items:

  • Ankle tape
  • Ice packs/ Heating packs
  • Eye Contact solution
  • Band-Aides
